Tim Anderson does a side-by-side comparison of Silverlight and Flash for calculating prime numbers. He has written the program in both platforms. I thought I’d add a Javascript version into the mix too. The results were as follows:

I’m at it again. I can’t help myself. Ever since my first job working as a lowly student Oracle SQL monkey for engage Mutual Assurance, I’ve wanted to build better SQL tools.

I’ve been tinkering with the idea of creating a GUI design pattern guide for a while, the general idea being that you keep a catalog of controls/techniques for GUI building, and document which situations those controls work best in.

I stumbled across Coolite the other day, and thought it looked cool (excuse the pun). In case you don’t know, Coolite is a new project that aims to wrap the ExtJS Ajax controls in such a way that they can be used with ASP.NET in a similar fashion to other ASP.NET controls.

A few years ago I was working on a Patient Administration System for an NHS Trust. Clinicians wanted to be able to copy the URL of the current page, and send it to another clinician in an email. Kind of like “See blood results here: link”. Of course, security was built in so ActiveDirectory knew who could see what.

Does anyone know of any commercial component vendors planning to support ASP.NET MVC?

Phil Haack, the Microsoft Program Manager, said “Yes, for the CTP we don’t have a story for control vendors. This is one of our highest priorities for the next milestone.”.

Tomorrow (Sunday 3rd November) I’m off to Barcelona to soak up TechEd for a week. I can’t wait, this is my first one and it’s a tad exciting :)
